Let The Buddha Do It

Let the Buddha Do It

Thich Nhat Hanh taught that, whenever you are overwhelmed, or have to do something you don’t want to do, we should let the Buddha do it.  He adds that this is always effective.

Thich Nhat Hanh does not expand on this.  He just let’s that simple statement stand for itself.  And in that vein, I would like to second his recommendation.

For those of us who are metaphysically inclined, such a statement presents no great difficulty.  We can readily accept that Buddha is a spiritual reality, and that we can invite that spiritual reality in to pinch-hit for us.

For those of us who are not metaphysically inclined, we can understand this teaching to mean that we are letting a higher, wiser part of our own psyche take over a difficult task.  Either way.  Or both ways.

And, of course, we can moderate this statement in accord with our own background.  “Let go and let God.”  Or: “Let the Christ in me take care of it.”  Or even just letting our wise inner self take care of the issue at hand.  One need only find a word or phrase that connects to that part of who we are.

My experience with this is that there is an immediate sense of lowered anxiety.  Try it.
